Eight countries in the region voiced their concerns that Syria might move toward territorial disintegration.

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that the fight against Israeli Zionism will not cease, even though the anti-Israel alliance axis might be affected by the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The Axis of Resistance is an anti-Israel alliance led by Iran, comprising the Hamas resistance movement in Palestine, the Lebanese Shia Islamist party Hezbollah, Yemen’s Houthis, and a myriad of militias in Iraq and Syria.

Araghchi acknowledged that Syria has been one of the most important members of the axis and “has played a significant role in confronting Israel and supporting the Palestinians.”

Without Syria’s support, the fight against Zionism “might face some limitations, but the resistance will find its way forward,” he pointed out, and attributed Al-Assad’s fall to the inability of the Syrian Arab Army to counter extremist groups that took control of many Syrian areas following an 11-day blitz offensive.

“Resistance is not dependent on land routes. Our connections to Yemen and Gaza remain closed, yet resistance adapts, securing its weapons and pathways,” the Iranian diplomat said, , as posted in X by Sina Toossi, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy.

Araghchi assured that Iran’s security and intelligence agencies were aware of the actions of terrorist groups in the Syrian town of Idlib and other parts of the Arab country. These actions are part of a plot by the United States and Israel to weaken the Axis of Resistance.

During a televised interview, the Iranian diplomat admitted he was surprised by the Syrian army’s inability to counter the terrorists’ movements and revealed that President Bashar al-Assad had expressed concerns about the state of his own army.

On Saturday, Araghchi met with representatives from eight countries, who voiced their concerns that Syria might move toward territorial disintegration and become a stronghold for terrorist groups. During the meeting, the attendees emphasized the need to respect Syrian sovereignty and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to initiate dialogue within the country.
